Selro Corp. / Selini Jewelry (1950s-1970s)
Born in Odessa, Paul Selenger immigrated to New York in 1927. Young Paul and his sister Fanny started working at their uncle’s diamond company.
Paul Selenger was granted citizenship in 1942 and served in the US Army’s Marine Corps until 1948.
When he returned to civilian life, Selenger was hired by H. Pomeranz & Co. NY, a company that produced costume jewelry, buckles, buttons, and cuff links. He later founded his own business, Selro Corp. Jewelry, in 1949. Selenger was a skilled businessman and jeweller.
A noteworthy fact is that Selro Corp. produced jewelry for businesses including Florenza, Capri, Hattie Carnegie, and Hargo.
In the early 1960s, Selenger launched Selini, a second jewellery line manufactured at his two factories in New York and Providence, Rhode Island.
